Dying World
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
Matthew 24:35-36
I know a lot of people look at the world around them and feel disheartened because there is so much chaos. There are people dying of the pandemic and other illnesses. There are war outbreaks between many nations.
People are hungry, living in poverty and afflicted with other calamities. We see natural disasters, global warming and mysterious things happening in our communities.
The love among people has gone cold. We see this because people do not wear masks to protect themselves and others from Covid-19. People destroy businesses and steal from each other. People kill and harm their neighbours for minor things. We see people taking temporary action that will have a long term effect on people’s jobs and the economy.
I understand when people who don’t know Christ panic and try to find solutions to the problems of the world; I get concerned when Christians who know the end events worry and panic. It is okay to pray and ask the Lord for protection, deliverance and for Him to supply our needs.
Call me insensitive but when I see the chaos in the world I don’t worry and despair. In contrast, I sort of feel happy and glad because I know that the end is near. As Christians, we shouldn’t try to save the world but rather help the people struggling in the world.
Wars will never end. Hunger will never be eradicated. There will never be equality. Violence will never be reduced. The bible says that in the end there will be wars and rumours of wars. Matthew 24:6, “You will hear of wars and rumours of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.” The verse says that we should not be alarmed. Do not worry!
The other day my mom called me to ask what the situation is like in Cape Town and I asked her what situation. You may call me closed-minded but I refuse to watch the news. I have enough negativity and bad things going on in my environment to worry about problems in the world that I can’t solve. For a long time, I decided that watching the news is depressing. If something is happening and I get caught in the crossfire I trust in my God to let His will be done in every situation in my life. If I am meant to die, be injured or whatever it will happen on that day no matter where I am if the Lord allows.
I also mentioned to two of my friends the other day that there is no point in watching the news because the only world event I am awaiting is the second coming of Christ. And I don’t need to watch the news to know when that happens because He says in his word that all eyes will see and all ears will hear. Don’t get me wrong I care about the people who are losing their jobs, their lives, their homes. I too wish I could do more for the people but I know that there is no solution or hope to the problems of this world.
God only has his hands in the world because he is concerned about the people He created in it. He knows that this world will pass away. So when you hear that you should have hope and faith in God. Don’t hope and believe that he will quiet down the chaos, stop the wars and starvation. He won’t do it. Not because He is incapable but because these things must happen in order for the end to come. Luke 21:25-26 says, “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” These things are meant to happen but we should not fear. We should look up to Jesus and trust that in the midst of the chaos He will keep you safe, protected, He will supply your needs.
I remember in 2020 when everybody was still worried and afraid of Covid-19; I told a friend that Covid is not for me. The Lord had given me the assurance that even with my frail health I would not be affected by this pandemic. To this day I have not caught the virus or shown any symptoms of even being infected. I am not saying that God was not with those who caught the virus. We just need to keep in mind that we are all facing different battles. The Lord knows what we can handle and He also knows when our time on earth has come to an end according to His plans. It can be hard to understand and accept the death of a loved one but we need to keep in mind that when we live according to God’s plans and will there will be many incomprehensible things.
Now, I am not afraid of death because my God has conquered death and I know that because I have accepted his salvation I too will conquer death if I die before the second coming. I do not worry about the chaos in the world because it gives me hope that the end is near. I have accepted that there are things I cannot change because those things need to happen for the end to come. As Christians and believers, we need to stop trying to change and fix the world. We should rather focus on changing peoples lives and ensuring that we are ready to meet our maker. Because when the end has come so shall we see His face.
I would like to leave you with a link to a song and the chorus because it just sums up my message.
Ooooh
You say You're working
Everything for my good, and
Ooooh
I believe every word
'Cause even in the madness
There is peace
Drowning out the voices all around me
Through all of this chaos
You are writing a symphony
A symphony
And even in the madness
There is peace
Drowning out the voices all around me
Through all of this chaos
You are writing a symphony
A symphony
