Chosen
Have you ever stopped to think about what it means to be chosen?
At birth, women have 1 million eggs. At puberty about 300 000 and in her lifetime 300 - 400 of those eggs are ovulated. The rest go to waste with every menstrual cycle. Man produce millions of sperm cells in their lifetime.
How else would you be if you had the right sperm cell and egg not been specifically chosen to meet at the specific time they met to make you?
I mean not every egg and sperm will produce the same human and we see this in siblings with the same parents. You may share a DNA and have some similar features but you will never look the same. It had to be the work of someone who had a purpose specifically for you to ensure that you were created.
The thought 'What does it mean to be chosen' came to my mind as I was doing my devotion and I bumped upon the verse John 15:16 "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you." This is not the only verse in the Bible that talks about us being chosen. According to my Google search, there are 21 Bible verses about being chosen.
My favourite is 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." When I read John 15:16, I thought of my dearest deceased parents. They lived long enough just to have me. Imagine if they had not met, then I wouldn't exist. A lot of thoughts came to mind about biology but that thought that two human beings who already had children with other people lived long enough to have a child with each other. If that is not being chosen then I don't know what is.
God himself allowed my parents to cross each others paths. He looked at my mother's womb and said, "This is the egg I have chosen." Then he looked at my father and said, "That is the sperm cell that will fertilise that egg to make Erica." I don't know if this is as mesmerising to you as it is to me.
Take a moment to think about it. If you have siblings think about how it's possible that you came from the same womb and the same man but yet you are so different. How can the same man and women with the same genes produce such different children? Some will say it can all be explained with genetics but who created genetics. It can only be someone greater than the genetics he created.
Of the million eggs and sperm cells that go to waste you were saved. You were selected. You were chosen to form into the human you are today. To be chosen is not like when we were kids and stood in a line during game time hoping to be chosen to be part of a team. Do you remember how you felt when you were picked first or at least not picked last? How much better should you feel that a God of wonders chose you.
Sometimes we don't realise how precious we are. It is important to acknowledge that had you not been chosen you would not be here. I am grateful that I am chosen.

This is deep. Often we imagine we came about by chance but for us to exist, something miraculous had to happen. The odds are one in a million. We often say that "we didn't ask to be born" and we usually say this when we are having problems. Often we think that statement is the pinnacle of our defence in arguments. But alas, what we would be doing is blaming that miracle of life for our problems.

Thank you Duncan. Wow, that ignited different ideas in my mind. Very true do. Saying, "I didn't ask to be born" is like blaming God for our existence. I am guilty of that. This is a very thought-provoking comment.
