What's In The Name

  "You need to know your history in order to shape your future." Earlier this year I was visiting a friend and as we were talking my blog came up and he asked me "What's the name about? Why Uncultured Hybrid? What does it mean?" And I said to him "I am sure a lot of people are wondering, I actually want to do a blog about that..." So he said, "That should have probably been your first post!" I said, "I wanted to keep people wondering..." Then I went on to explain to him how I came up with the name. When I was doing my undergrad, I had intercultural communication as a course. One of our assignments was to evaluate how we effectively communicate with people from different cultures. So before I get into it, I need to give you some contextual history... I was born and lived in Angola for 7 years of my life. Missed Signs

"Suicide does not kill people, sadness kills them!" What goes through the mind of someone when they have decided that they have had enough and that they were tired? Sometime last year (2018) I had the idea of starting a suicide awareness campaign, after watching the second season of 13 Reasons Why. I had an idea of what suicide was and I was well aware that it is real for many people. I am not aware of anybody that I know that has committed suicide but I am sure that many people I know have thought of it at least once. The name of my campaign was going to be Missed Signs and with it, I wrote a poem that I will add to this blog. Part of the campaign was to make use of social media to post alerting status' and/or stories and see how many people would respond. So last year I posted my first status and I only got 3 responses and all three were from women.
