Consistency
My friend Isalina and I always beat ourselves down about consistency. She has a YouTube channel and her goal is to post twice a week but she often doesn't fulfill this goal. For me and my blog post I have a goal to post once a week but if you are here you know I don't do that.
So as I was thinking about this it dawned on me that we can be consistent in different ways. What prompted this blog is that I have started a podcast and I was second guessing whether I would be consistent. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary consistency is the quality or fact of staying the same at different times.
So if I look at this definition I see that consistency is not about time but about quality. That's what I want for my podcast and blogs; to be consistent with the quality of the work I deliver. I may not post every week but I want to ensure that when I post I post quality.
Often we try to stick to tight schedules. Like posting everyday so that our followers, readers or listeners don't forget about us. Sometimes we try to follow trends and create content that we are not happy with just so we keep our audience. We compromise our quality, our morals and sometimes even our goals just so we stay on top of the game and stay relevant.
I was watching a video about the McClure family and they were talking about a video that they recorded because the challenge was trending. They decided not to post the video because their children were not happy about it and it didn't represent their family and what their channel was about.
So that got me to think about what consistency means to me and how it would affect my blogs and Podcast. If there is something you are passionate about and you want to be consistent I urge you to be consistent in your quality. Don't compromise on anything just so you can be relevant or to grow your audience. Consistency is about staying true to your mission, vision and your goal.
You are the only one who knows why you are doing what you are doing. I initially started my blog as a way to express myself. When people started reading my blogs and telling me that they were helpful then my goal was to put my content out there to help others. How often I post doesn't make a difference as long as the message reaches the right people at the right the right time.
So to me, my friend Isalina and anybody else who is doing something I say be consistent with your quality. Stay true to yourself and to your goal. Think of your audience and ask yourself do you want them to just watch or do you want them to enjoy your content.
Let's learn to redefine consistency.
Great stuff Erica. Consistency in quality any day any time.
