Mirrors Don't Lie

As I stared at my reflection
Thoughts of self-doubt
And a low self-esteem
Stared back at me.

Why do I only see the
negative in me?
So I looked again closely
And I could see what my
Mirror showed me.

That pure look of innocence
That I thought was ripped
From me.
That smile that radiates
Like the rays of the sun
On a hot summer day.

Then I heard my mirror say
your smile brings the same
Warmth as the sun to those
Who surround you.

I couldn't help but smile
A little more and take
A closer look.
Now I could see the scars
That I often hide because
Of shame.

I heard it speak again
There is nothing to be
Ashamed of.
Those scars are proof
Of the battles, you've won.
You are a warrior.

I wanted to hear more
But the longer I looked
The louder I heard the voices
Of people judging me.
Pushing me into a corner.

My mirror spoke again and said
Shut those voices out
Perfection is a illusion
So look at your reflection
And see that you are magnificent
Just the way you are.

So when you feel discouraged
Look at the mirror
And see your magnificence
Hear it remind you that
You are amazing just the
Way you are.
Because mirrors don't lie!
